These gluten free tortillas are soft, bendy, and totally grain-free — made with just flaxseeds, water, olive oil, and salt. They’re earthy, nutty, and perfect for wraps, tacos, or dipping.
Flaxseed Gluten Free Tortillas (Grain-Free & Flexible)
Makes: 8 large or 12 small
Ingredients:
- 1 cup ground flaxseeds (golden or brown)
- ½ cup warm water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Equipment needed:
- Mixing bowl
- Tortilla press (or rolling pin and parchment paper)
- Non-stick skillet or griddle
Method:
- In a bowl, mix ground flaxseeds, salt, warm water, and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
- Knead briefly, shape into a ball, wrap, and let it rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal balls.
- Roll each ball between two sheets of parchment paper until thin, or use a tortilla press.
- Heat a dry non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook each tortilla for 1–2 minutes per side, until golden spots appear and they’re easy to flip.
- Stack cooked gluten free tortillas under a clean towel to keep them warm and flexible.
Tips & Tricks:
- They’ll feel a little delicate while hot but firm up as they cool.
- Store any extra gluten free tortillas in the fridge and reheat in a dry pan to bring them back to life.
