Flaxseed Gluten Free Tortillas (Grain-Free & Flexible)

Makes: 8 large or 12 small

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup ground flaxseeds (golden or brown)
  • ½ cup warm water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Equipment needed:

  • Mixing bowl
  • Tortilla press (or rolling pin and parchment paper)
  • Non-stick skillet or griddle

Method:

  1. In a bowl, mix ground flaxseeds, salt, warm water, and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
  2. Knead briefly, shape into a ball, wrap, and let it rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  3. Divide the dough into 8 equal balls.
  4. Roll each ball between two sheets of parchment paper until thin, or use a tortilla press.
  5. Heat a dry non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook each tortilla for 1–2 minutes per side, until golden spots appear and they’re easy to flip.
  6. Stack cooked gluten free tortillas under a clean towel to keep them warm and flexible.

Tips & Tricks:

  • They’ll feel a little delicate while hot but firm up as they cool.
  • Store any extra gluten free tortillas in the fridge and reheat in a dry pan to bring them back to life.
