The Ultimate Shopping List for Gluten Free Baking Products

Baking on a gluten free diet can be complicated, with many recipes not providing alternatives to gluten containing flours, biscuits, and mixes. However, there are some great products that are naturally gluten free or made gluten free that you can substitute in. Below, we will discuss some of our favourite gluten free baking products to satisfy all your baking needs.

Flours

Plain and self-raising flour contain gluten, and with so many baked goods containing these items in supermarkets, cafes, bakeries, and restaurants, it can be difficult to avoid. But when baking at home, you can easily use a flour mix that is gluten free and can be swapped out one for one, like Orgran or Well & Good’s plain and self-raising, gluten free flours. To make it simple Bob’s Red Mill also has a great 1-to-1 Gluten Free Baking Flour Mix that combines a blend of gluten free flours and starches to create the perfect mix for cookies, cakes, brownies, pancakes, and more!

Alternatively, there are some great single flours that are naturally gluten free and can be used in baking to spice things up. Try sorghum flour, potato starch, tapioca flour, coconut flour, brown rice flour, cornmeal, or almond flour. These can all be viewed HERE

GF Cookies and Biscuits for Baking

Gluten free biscuits can be used for a wide variety of things in baking, including creating a base for a cake or adding a crunch to rum balls!

Some of our favourites include Schar’s Savoiardi Sponge Biscuits, which are a popular addition to trifle and tiramisu, and Schar Maria Biscuits, which can be crushed to add to truffles or for the base of a cheesecake!

Baking Toppings and Fillings

Ready-to-go mixes and gluten free toppings can add extra flavours and texture to our baking. This could include custards, jams, nut-spreads, chocolate, and more.

The Sweet William Chocolate range of chocolate chips and buttons to bake with is sure to satisfy your chocolate cravings and they are all deliciously vegan and gluten free.  Vego also make a hazelnut chocolate spread that is crunchy, vegan, and completely gluten free.

If you’re making a pudding or tart, a great option for a gluten free custard is Orgran’s Instant Custard Mix. Whipping Cream from Well & Good can also be used as a versatile dessert topping to pipe cannoli or layer cakes.

Baking Mixes

Who doesn’t love a baking mix that’s ready to go, just add butter and eggs? They save time and on top of that, they’re delicious!

There are plenty of gluten free baking mixes available on the market, including, but not limited to, brownies, red velvet cake, cookies, vanilla cupcakes, chocolate mud cake, pancakes, bread, pizza bases, and more! Some good brands to try include Well & Good, Yes You Can, and Melinda’s Gluten Free.
